Crashes cause backups on Highway 101 from Nipomo to Arroyo Grande

A crash reportedly involving four vehicles along southbound Highway 101 near Highway 166 in Nipomo has traffic backed up 10 miles north of the San Luis Obispo-Santa Barbara county line, according to the CHP.

The agency has issued a Sigalert because traffic is not moving, or moving very slowly as far north as Los Berros Road and the area near the 101 intersection with El Campo Road south of Arroyo Grande.

CHP has also received reports that some drivers are using the freeway’s right shoulder to get around the backup, or driving reverse to get off the 101 at Los Berros or El Campo roads.

Some residual slowing has been reported as far back as the Brisco and Halcyon roads area of Arroyo Grande, according to radio dispatches from officers in the field.

Just before 5 p.m., another crash – this one possibly with three vehicles – was reported along southbound 101 between Tefft Street and Los Berros in Nipomo.

No other details are available on the second crash, and the first crash was reported as a minor-injury wreck.

Another crash was reported along southbound Highway 101 at West Tefft Street.
