John Summer resigns as executive director of SLO County Visitors & Conference Bureau

November 3, 2010

John Summer, executive director of the San Luis Obispo County Visitors & Conference Bureau for the past year, has resigned, effective Nov. 1.

He will remain at the VCB as a consultant through year-end.

During his tenure, he streamlined business services, conducted a successful fund-raising campaign and began a collaborative effort to re-brand and promote the county’s tourism, according to VCB president Noreen Martin.

“We are grateful to John for guiding the Visitors & Conference Bureau into a new era,’’ she added.

The VCB doesn’t plan to replace Summer at this time. Instead, the VCB board will “work with the staff to continue the VCB’s efforts, including collaborating with local cities and business improvement districts to market the county’s tourism opportunities statewide,’’ Martin said.

Summer noted that he has had a “wonderful career in publishing, journalism and public relations, and I’ll continue working in various media to enhance the Central Coast experience,’’ according to the VCB’s news release.

Before joining the VCB, Summer was one of the founders of Central Coast magazine and a news anchor at KSBY-TV.
