Nominations are being accepted for The Tribunes Top 20 under 40 competition.
Now in its sixth year, the award honors 20 women and men younger than age 40 who have demonstrated excellence in their field and a strong commitment to community service.
To be eligible, nominees must live and work in San Luis Obispo County year-round and be 39 or younger on Jan. 1. Common characteristics in past years winners include pride in community, dedication to their craft and determination to succeed.
Were seeking individuals who are making a difference in their communities through their leadership, vision and commitment in both their work and volunteer activities, said Executive Editor Sandra Duerr.
Candidates will be evaluated by a panel of judges from the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation.
Only one nomination per person will be accepted. Winners will be chosen by December, and short biographies of each will be published in The Tribune.
Previous winners have represented a diverse group of young talent and have been involved in finance, law, health care, education, business, local government and nonprofit organizations.

Ex-baseball player a real estate agent
Richardson Properties, an affiliate of Christies Great Estates, has hired Adam Melhuse as an associate real estate agent. Melhuse is a former professional baseball player who was a catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies and the Oakland As, according to a statement by Richardson Properties. Melhuse has lived in San Luis Obispo since 1994, and retired from baseball and received his real estate license in 2009. He is a coach and founding member of Big League Baseball Clinics, which works with children 8 to 16 years old throughout San Luis Obispo County.
