Paso Robles police say they arrested one person and cited three others during a downtown traffic enforcement checkpoint Sunday.

Officers screened 248 of the 483 vehicles that went through the Spring Street checkpoint, according to the Paso Robles Police Department.

Three drivers were cited on suspicion of driving without a license, and two of the vehicles were towed, according to police.

Officers also arrested a Shandon man on suspicion of having three ounces of marijuana and less than a third of an ounce of methamphetamine in his vehicle, police said.

The Rev. Sean Parker Dennison has taken over as interim minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Luis Obispo County, replacing the Rev. Helen Carroll, who left in June.

Dennison graduated from Starr King School for the Ministry in 2000, and served seven years in Salt Lake City as minister of the South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society.

In 2005, having outgrown its facility on Foothill Boulevard, the Fellowship purchased land in Edna Valley and began plans to develop a new church home.

While that move remains pending, the congregation’s 200 members and friends are meeting at 2074 Parker St. in San Luis Obispo for Sunday services and religious education for children and teens, as well as activities throughout the week.

Established in 1952, the congregation is a founding member of Central Coast Clergy and Laity for Justice, an interfaith alliance promoting peace and justice for all, and has taken a lead role as an ally to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

The San Luis Obispo County chapter of the American Red Cross is holding a Swim-A-Cross fundraiser Sept. 25 to benefit local Red Cross disaster preparedness and response programs.

Interested participants can sign up to swim laps at one of four Kennedy Club Fitness locations in the county to raise money for the local chapter.

Participants decide how many laps they will swim, ask friends and family to donate a certain amount of money per lap and then donate the proceeds to the local Red Cross chapter.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Children can swim from 10 a.m. to noon, and adults can swim from noon to 2 p.m.

Registration forms are available at the Red Cross office at 225 Prado Road, Suite A, in San Luis Obispo, or at any of the Kennedy Club locations.

The Red Cross will provide snacks; and awards will be given to the top finishers and top fundraisers.
