SLO County Roundup

North County

The county Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit had to help 12 people ashore at Nacimiento Lake after their ski boat sank Sunday afternoon.

The boat appeared to be overloaded, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

When it was traversing the 5 mph area near a crowded part of the lake, a wave struck the boat and flooded it, causing it to go nose down in 7 feet of water, officials said.

According to authorities, everyone on the boat made it to shore safely, including its operator — who told rescuers that he could not swim but had a flotation device.

Overloaded vessels hit by waves is the main cause of boats sinking at Nacimiento, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Monterey County park rangers are to investigate the sinking, authorities said.

An area dedicated to local authors is now available at the Friends of the Paso Robles Library gift store at the city’s library.

The area was designed to display and sell the books of local authors in the genres of fiction and nonfiction for adults, teens and children.

The authors have also signed the books in the section.

“There is a wealth of local literary talent to showcase,” store manager Nanette Madding said, adding that all proceeds from book sales support the Paso Robles City Library.

Authors interested in contributing their books can contact Madding at prfol@yahoo.com for more information.

The Friends of the Library gift store is located just off the library lobby at 1000 Spring St. in Paso Robles.

It’s open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
