A Morro Bay barber is the likely winner of Friday’s $133 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot.

John Davis, who cuts hair at Mike’s Barber Shop on Main Street in Morro Bay, is the winner, said Mike Dominquez, owner of the shop. Davis had not been in the shop since winning the jackpot, Dominquez said.

He would not give out Davis’ home phone, so a confirmation could not be made.

The winning ticket was purchased at Bottle Liquor and Deli, also on Main Street. It was one of the largest jackpots won in the state in the Mega Millions game that is played in 41 states.

In order to claim a large prize like this, winners must bring the ticket into one of the lottery’s offices. The process of verifying the winning ticket takes about two hours, said Bill Ainsworth, lottery spokesman.

“We are just waiting,” he said. “We are as fascinated as anyone else to see who it is.”

Davis has a year to claim the prize.
