The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is expected to discuss a review of engineering documents at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant prompted by a long-term failure by personnel to correct low-level safety problems.
The meeting in San Luis Obispo is open to the public and is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Embassy Suites Hotel, 333 Madonna Road. The public will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions about the proceedings.
The review will consist of a self-audit by plant personnel of the plants design documentation, including its final safety analysis report, to ensure that these documents accurately reflect the physical configuration of the plant, said Victor Dricks, NRC spokesman.
The design review of the plant comes after a long-term problem by plant personnel of failing to identify and correct low-level safety problems at the plant. NRC inspectors have documented the problem over the past two years.
We want to get to the point where we identify any problems before our regulators find them, said Kory Raftery, Diablo Canyon spokesman.
The Sept. 22 meeting will consist of a formal presentation on the design review by plant managers. NRC officials and the public will then be able to ask questions.
