The National Weather Service warns that surf is expected to build along some Central Coast beaches because of the after effects of last week’s strong South Pacific storm.
In a Coastal Flood Statement set to expire at 5 p.m. on Thursday, forecasters warn that longer-period swells are expected to arrive by Monday night, with wave heights building afterward.
Swells are expected to peak Wednesday — with breakers possibly of more than 7 feet — and then begin to subside Thursday.
South-facing shores such as Avila Beach and Cayucos are most affected, according to the Weather Service.
Forecasters also warn of rip currents.
