Someone stole $25,000 in cash from a car left at a Park and Ride site in Santa Margarita on Wednesday.
A woman hid a bag that included cash from her business and the sale of a car under the seat of her vehicle while she and her husband went to a movie, according to the Sheriff's Department. When the pair returned to the vehicle parked near highways 58 and 101 around 9 p.m., they saw that a window had been smashed and the bag of money was missing.
Items from a California Department of Corrections uniform were also taken, according to authorities.
Detectives collected some evidence from the scene, but are asking that anyone with information call 549-STOP or go to SLOTIPS.org. There is a $1,000 reward.
The public is also advised to not leave valuables in their cars. There have been a large number of auto burglaries reported across San Luis Obispo County the past three months, according to sheriff's officials.
