Cal Poly has been ranked the best public masters university in the West for the 18th year in a row by U.S. News and World Report in its 2011 Americas Best Colleges guidebook, according to university officials.
The category includes universities that provide a full range of undergraduate and masters degree programs but few, if any, doctoral degree programs.
The university moved up from sixth to fifth in the magazines overall list of the Wests best universities, which includes both public and private institutions.
Cal Polys College of Engineering also moved up one spot to second best public masters engineering program in the country behind the top-ranked U.S. Military Academy. A number of Cal Polys College of Engineering programs ranked high in the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs assessment in their individual specialty categories.
The U.S. News rankings will be available at www.usnews.com on Tuesday and when the 2011 Americas Best Colleges Guidebook hits newsstands Aug. 24.
