A sea otter pup clings to its mother in Morro Bay earlier this month while they feed. Sea otters in California give birth in the winter from approximately January to March, according to Otternet.com.
Mothers are very protective of their young. If threatened, they will grab their young and dive. If they dive too much, the pup could drown.
