Police are warning residents of a new Internet lottery scam in which an e-mail is sent to a “beneficiary” from the Department of Homeland Security in Montgomery, Ala.

The e-mail states the individual has won a large amount of money from an unnamed lottery company outside the United States, and advises the beneficiary to pay a $150 fee to receive the winnings.
In a news release, Pismo Beach police Sgt. Tom Portz advises residents not to respond to these types of solicitations.
Anyone who is contacted by someone saying he or she is a lottery representative and requesting a face-to-face meeting should instead immediately contact the police department, he said.

North County
The county wants the public’s input on a bridge to be built over the Estrella River east of Paso Robles near Whitley Gardens.
The community forum, organized by the county public works department, will allow residents to discuss the location, design and potential environmental effects involved in replacing the River Grove Drive Bridge originally built in 1910.
The $4.6 million bridge would be built with a steel truss design and funded through the Federal Highway Bridge Program, according to the county, which allows local agencies to replace and rehabilitate bridges on local highways.
Construction of the new bridge is slated for spring 2015, project manager Cori Marsalek said.
The meeting, planned for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 10, will provide a forum for residents to discuss concerns and options for the new bridge.
The talk will be at the CalFire Meridian Station, at 4050 Branch Road.
