A Paso Robles man was arrested recently on suspicion of possessing child pornography, sheriffs officials said Tuesday.
County sheriffs correctional officers were conducting routine inspections for the Sheriffs Departments home detention program in April when they checked on 37-year-old Salvador Lopez in the 1900 block of Niderer Road.
Lopez, who has been previously convicted of possession of child pornography, is prohibited from having an operable computer at his home, officials said.
Correctional officers seized a computer at Lopezs home and sent it for forensic examination. The investigation revealed additional child pornography had been downloaded on the laptop.
A warrant was issued for Lopezs arrest; he was taken into custody last Wednesday and remains in County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail on suspicion of two counts of possessing child pornography, which are felonies.
The departments home detention program allows people to be on supervised release to reduce jail overcrowding and reduce costs associated with housing nonviolent inmates, according to a news release from sheriffs spokesman Rob Bryn.
