Dylan Gavin hit a tiebreaking three-run home run in the eighth inning to lead the San Luis Obispo Blues to a 5-2 win over the Santa Barbara Foresters in a summer collegiate baseball game on Saturday in Santa Barbara.
The Blues (27-14, 21-10 California Collegiate League) have claimed the first two games of the three-game set to move within two games of Santa Barbara (32-9, 22-7) in the league race.
Brock Duke picked up the win for San Luis Obispo, throwing 32⁄3 innings of hitless relief. He struck out five and walked one.
Trailing 2-1 in the eighth, Matt Orloff led off with a single. With two outs and Orloff on second, Matt Juengel reached on an error to keep the inning alive before Rafael Nedas RBI single set the stage for Gavins homer.
San Luis Obispo Rattlers 12, Santa Maria Packers 9
Trailing 9-3 after six innings, the Rattlers scored the last nine runs to complete the comeback.
Joe Etcheverry had three hits and an RBI, while incoming Cal Poly freshman Chris Hoo added two hits, two runs and two RBI for the Rattlers (18-22, 8-21).
Cal Polys Mason Radeke picked up the win, throwing two innings of relief for San Luis Obispo. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
SLO Blues baseball camp
The San Luis Obispo Blues summer collegiate baseball team is hosting a camp at Stockton Field at the Sinshiemer Complex.
The camp, for those ages 8-12, will be held 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday.
Cost of the camp is $135 per person and includes instruction from Blues coaches and players and a camp T-shirt.
