Cal Poly women’s swim, diving teams in new league

July 20, 2010

Beginning this upcoming season, the Cal Poly women’s swimming and diving team will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, which will be adding the sport, the school announced Tuesday.

This comes after the Big West Conference chose to drop swimming and diving when participation numbers among its members dipped this year, leaving the Mustangs, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific and UC Davis as the only women’s teams.

Each will be joining the MPSF, a 10-sport conference known mainly for its specialization in Olympic sports.

Cal State Bakersfield, Loyola Marymount, Northern Colorado, San Diego and Seattle will also be sending their women’s swimming and diving programs to the conference.

The MPSF also sponsors men’s soccer, women’s water polo, indoor track and field, gymnastics, men’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse.

Cal Poly is a member of the MPSF in women’s indoor track and field.

The Mustangs men’s swimming and diving team will announce its affiliation for the upcoming season in October, according to a Cal Poly news release.
