Rattlers extend baseball win streak to six

Robert Vickers went 4 for 4 with a double and a run scored to lead the San Luis Obispo Rattlers to a 4-1 win over Team Vegas in a summer collegiate baseball game at SLO Stadium on Saturday.

San Luis Obispo (16-17, 7-16 California Collegiate League) has won six straight after falling to 10-17 two weeks ago.

Cuesta College catcher Mitchell Prophet, who joined the Rattlers earlier this week after an injury sent another player home, was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI.

Michael Nielbeck (2-2), another Cuesta standout, got the win after tossing three innings of hitless relief. He struck out two and walked one.

D.J. Gunderson struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to pick up his third save of the summer.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Vickers took the initiative to score himself. After singling to lead off the inning, Vickers stole second base and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch.

Rafael Neda and Ryan Aguayo hit a double and a home run each to help the San Luis Obispo Blues split a league doubleheader on the road.

The Blues dropped the opener after Santa Maria scored a fifth-inning run off reliever Joe Pond to break a 2-2 tie.

The Blues only had two innings to try and tie the score, as California Collegiate League rules state that the first game of a doubleheader be played in seven innings.

Matt Juengel and A.J. Robinson had two hits apiece for the Blues with Robinson providing the game’s only extra-base hit with a double.

Aguayo’s two-run homer in the fourth inning of the second game gave the Blues (23-12, 17-8) a 4-0 lead before Neda’s solo shot provided the final margin.
