  The new attorney for the woman convicted of second-degree murder for causing the wreck that killed a CHP officer in 2010 will be given more time to file a motion for a new trial.

  Kaylee Ann Weisenberg was in court Friday, but her Del Mar-based attorney, Angelyn Gates, said she just received the final portion of the voluminous trial transcripts this week to prepare her motion for a new trial — and needed more time to get ready.

  Weisenberg was convicted in August of the murder charge and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The charges stemmed from a crash near Paso Robles on June 27, 2010, that killed CHP officer Brett Oswald.

  A two-county motorcycle chase that began in Santa Maria and reached 100 miles per hour ended in the Atascadero Library parking lot Wednesday night with the arrest of the motorcyclist and his passenger.

  Matthew Ryan Mahoney, 31, was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest and driving under the influence of drugs. His passenger, Yolanda Gonzalez Leal, 40, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs for sale. Both are from Santa Maria.

  According to the California Highway Patrol, a CHP unit tried to stop the motorcyclist on Broadway near Highway 101 in Santa Maria. Mahoney failed to pull over, the CHP said, and drove north on Highway 101.

  Volunteers in Templeton and Atascadero have worked for weeks to put on two haunted houses for this Halloween.

  Templeton’s haunted house, organized by the nonprofit Templeton Recreation Foundation and the Templeton Fire Department, is built in a vacant four-bedroom duplex on Main Street. The home’s aged character, complete with boarded-up windows, adds to its spookiness. It’s a fundraiser for firefighter training and a new community gym. Atascadero’s is a neighborhood effort on Junipero Avenue where friends turned one house into “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” with various skits, costumes and props to benefit the Boy Scouts.

  “We let people pick what they want in terms of acting and costumes. Everyone has their own specialty,” said resident Nancy Weatherman, noting that 63 people helped. She’s organized the event for the past eight years as a way to bring neighbors together.

  The Paso Robles woman convicted of second-degree murder in August for causing the wreck that killed a CHP officer plans to seek a new trial, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.

  Kaylee Ann Weisenberg, 23, has hired a San Diego attorney, Angelyn Gates, to review transcripts of the trial, which is expected to take about a month of preparation.

  A San Luis Obispo Superior Court jury convicted Weisenberg in August of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the crash near Paso Robles on June 27, 2010, that killed CHP Officer Brett Oswald.
