Where safe and sane fireworks are permitted
County/Cal Fire is reminding revelers that all use, sale and possession of fireworks is illegal in most of San Luis Obispo County, where violations will result in a misdemeanor citation with a $2,000 fine.
State-regulated Safe and Sane fireworks are legal to use, sell and possess only within the following jurisdictions: San Miguel Community Services District, Templeton Community Services District, the cities of Arroyo Grande and Grover Beach and the Oceano Community Services District.
Where fireworks are permitted, they should be used outdoors and only on a smooth, flat surface away from structures, dry leaves and flammable materials. Keep a hose or bucket with water nearby. Avoid injury by taking these precautions: Never carry fireworks in a pocket; never shoot them off in metal or glass containers; dont alter or combine fireworks; and never relight a dud firework. Instead, wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
Adults should always supervise fireworks activities. Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks. Keep pets inside to reduce fright and risk of injury.
