The arraignment of an Atascadero woman accused of vehicular manslaughter after allegedly hitting a CHP vehicle and killing a CHP officer in Paso Robles was postponed Thursday so she can consider hiring a private attorney.
Kaylee Ann Weisenberg’s arraignment Thursday in San Luis Obispo Superior Court was delayed a week to July 8 as her family discussed whether to hire an attorney, said Ken Cirisan, her court-appointed lawyer.

Weisenberg, 22, has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and driving with a suspended license in the wake of the crash.
CHP officer Brett Oswald, 47, was waiting for a tow truck to haul an abandoned vehicle on South River Road near Spanish Camp Road when Weisenberg turned a corner and lost control just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The left front end of Weisenberg’s car, a copper-colored Toyota Corolla, allegedly hit the left front of the officer’s vehicle, and the CHP car then was pushed into Oswald, CHP Sgt. Tim Newman said.
Exactly how the impact occurred and other information — including speed — are being investigated by the CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
CHP spokesman Joe Vega said agency officials also are still waiting for the results of Weisenberg’s toxicology exam.
Cirisan said his client was traveling about 60 mph in a 55 mph zone before the collision. Cirisan said the initial investigation didn’t indicate that Weisenberg was intoxicated when the crash occurred.
Weisenberg appeared in Judge John Trice’s court wearing a red jumpsuit and agreed to waive her right to a timely arraignment until she knows whom her lawyer will be.
“She’s sad about the consequences,” Cirisan said. “She’s obviously upset, and she is facing serious charges.”
Weisenberg will likely enter a plea of not guilty and proceed to the preliminary hearing stage of the criminal court case.
She remains in custody in County Jail in lieu of $52,000 bail, according to court records.
