Spots are open for children and teens who want to learn to surf in Pismo Beach this summer. The Pismo Beach Recreation Division and Moondoggies Beach Club are offering three-day surf camps for youth ages 7 to 17 through Aug. 17.
For some students, it could be the first time they put on a wetsuit, said Ian Keach, activities director at Moondoggies. Students will learn to stand and maneuver on a surfboard, as well as learn safety skills such as how to spot and avoid riptides.
The camp is one of numerous activities that the Pismo Beach Recreation Division has planned for the summer.
Others include beach volleyball camps, science camps, tennis lessons, tai chi classes and a womens self-defense course. A 5K race is also planned at the Pismo Beach Pier on July 31.
The surf camp costs $109 for a three-day session.
