The CHP on Tuesday identified the Shandon man killed last week on Highway 46 East as Aaron Salgado.
Officers say Salgado, 26, had stopped in the eastbound lane about 6 p.m. Friday to turn left into his residence at 1950 Highway 46 East when the 1987 Honda he was driving was rear-ended by a 1998 Toyota Avalon driven by 22-year-old Justin Sharp of Grover Beach.
The impact then pushed Salgados car into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Jerry Avila, 33, of Tulare. Avila then lost control of the pickup, which then traveled across the eastbound lane and landed on its side, according to the CHP.
Salgado was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sharp suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
Avila and his four passengers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to Twin Cities.
The crash remained under investigation Tuesday. Toxicology results are pending.
