Arroyo Grande High’s Schachter breaks own school swim record

Arroyo Grande High swimmer Mia Schachter broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 59.17 seconds at a home dual meet against Paso Robles on Friday.

She clipped nearly two seconds off the mark set last year and also won the 50 freestyle (25.14) and was on the winning 200 relay (1:58.52).

The Eagles girls won 220-89 while the boys claimed a 194-110 victory.

Claren Ruth had personal-best times in the 200 free (2:02.8) and 100 backstroke (1:04.86), winning both.

Melanie Johnson won the 500 free in 5:35.89, nearly 30 seconds ahead of second place.

On the boys side, Zachary Toomay claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:09.05 and Kenan Marting won the 50 free in 23.36.

Boys: Morro Bay 94, Santa Maria 76; Girls: Morro Bay 101, Santa Maria 55 Trent Popovich won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:53 and the 100 back in 58.13 for Morro Bay. Tyler Fraser added individual wins in the 100 free (55.32) and the 100 breast in 1:17.

Elliot Kiser won the 50 free with a time of 24.61 and won the 100 fly in 1:04.

On the girls side, Laura Clark won the 200 IM in 2:47 for the Pirates and the 100 back in 1:05.

Kendall Swanson added one more win for Morro Bay in the 50 free with a time of 27.3 and Catalina Hubbard won the 100 fly in 1:25.

Boys: San Luis Obispo 238, Pioneer Valley 58.5; Girls: San Luis Obispo 240, Pioneer Valley 49 Alan Peterson won the 500 free in 5:05 and the 100 back in 1:00.65 for San Luis Obispo. Josh Pearl won the 100 free in a personal best time of 52.23.

Elizabeth Waddell won the 200 IM in 2:36 and the 500 free in 5:59 for the Tigers.

Jesse Magliari came in first in the 100 fly (1:04) and the 100 back (1:05).

Thomas Lee won the one-meter diving for the Tigers with 136.8 points and Amy Richardson won for the girls with 135 points.

BASEBALL North County Christian 22, Valley Christian 6 Tyler Roth had two hits including a grand slam and finished with seven RBI as the Crusaders (4-0, 2-0 Coast Valley League) batted around twice in the seventh inning and scored 13 runs.

Daniel Katches added four hits and two RBI on two doubles for North County Christian and Josh Feld had 10 strikeouts in five innings of work.

SOFTBALL Atascadero 13, Santa Maria 1 Jessie Hufstetler hit a triple for the Greyhounds and had two RBI in their home victory over Santa Maria.

Hufstetler also had seven strikeouts in three innings on the mound, and Ashlee Reusche was 3 for 4 for Atascadero.

Brigit Godfrey was 2 for 3 with two RBI and Laura Gorman was 2 for 2 with two RBI for the Greyhounds, who had 13 total hits.

Pioneer Valley 4, Morro Bay 2; Morro Bay 6, Pioneer Valley 4 Jasmine Singh was 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI in the opening game loss.

Karly Alfirevic struck out eight and allowing one earned run in six innings.

Kylie Gacad, Jordan Martinez and Gina Ion had two hits apiece in the day’s second game. Candace Milbourne (3-1) had the rare honor of picking up the win and save in a single ballgame.

After being relieved by Jessica Wagner in the sixth, Milbourne returned in the seventh with runners on to pick up the win for the Pirates (3-1).

BOYS TENNIS San Marcos 10, San Luis Obispo 8 San Luis Obispo’s Coco Angulo and James Campbell each swept all three of their singles matches for the Tigers (4-5).

Peter Angulo and Blake Nicholson followed by winning two of the three sets for San Luis Obispo, which lost to San Marcos 12-6 earlier this season.

“It was a closer match this second time around and we are improving more and more each match,” San Luis Obispo coach Ken Peet said.
