A Range Rover that crashed at Hearst Ranch’s air strip in September, killing a passenger, was traveling at a speed of at least 105 miles per hour, according to a search warrant filed by an investigator with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office.
CHP officials estimated the speed using analysis that included examining the skid marks, according to the warrant filed by investigator Dan Bresnahan.
Kurt Duncan Naegele, 41, of West Newport Beach faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and charges of driving under the influence and causing bodily injury.
He has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court March 29 for a pre-preliminary hearing, according to court records.
Duncan’s lawyer, Robert Sanger, was not immediately available for comment this afternoon.
The crash killed 38-year-old Darren Dahlman and injured passengers Christopher Pennell and Ryan Doheny.
Naegele, who was also hurt, had a blood alcohol level of 0.16, according to the CHP. He estimated his speed at 35 miles per hour, according to the warrant.
