Fort Hunter Liggetts police captain was arrested in February on suspicion of drunken driving and causing an injury to another driver in a crash outside of Creston, according to the CHP.
William Winfred Lorz II, 42, was arrested Feb. 7. Hes being charged with driving under the influence with a blood/alcohol level of 0.08 or above and causing great bodily injury, as well as driving under the influence with a blood/alcohol level of above 0.08.
Lorz has pleaded not guilty and has a pending court case, according to prosecutors.
He has been placed on leave from his work duties, Fort Hunter Liggett officials said.
Lorz allegedly ran a stop sign on Creston Road at about 40 miles per hour in a 1999 GMC Sonoma and crashed into 41-year-old Michael Gardner of Madera, said CHP Officer Bill Irons.
Gardner was driving about 60 mph on Highway 41 in a 2006 Honda Accord.
The car was pushed onto an embankment and rolled over; he was injured but survived the crash, according to the CHP.
Lorzs blood/alcohol level was measured at 0.12, higher than the 0.08 legal limit for driving, prosecutors said.
