San Luis Obispo High freshman Andrea Reynolds came within one out of a perfect game as the Tigers dominated Mission Prep 10-0 in six innings in a Tuesday nonleague softball game.
Reynolds allowed a two-out, sixth inning single to Mission Preps Kyra Joseph and faced just one batter over the minimum.
Shes a real exciting freshman to have, San Luis Obispo coach Mike Lee said. Shes also the only freshman on the team this year, and Im really looking forward to having that kind of pitching in the circle for several years.
Taryn Kalman was 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBI, and Keri Jacobs-Kelly also drove in three for the Tigers (4-2).
Lee said that having all-PAC 7 catcher Karina Smyth help the pitching staff is a big asset for the team but that bigger challenges await.
The real task (for Reynolds) is going to be when we open up league next week, Lee added. We need to see how things look when she can have the ball in her hands against the league, but shes had a couple of good performances up to this point.
