Efforts by the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County to complete restoration of the historic Octagon Barn received a boost last week in the form ofa donation from the Forbes Family Fund.
At the request of the family, the amount of the donation is not available. It is, however, enough to take the project through the countys permitting process, said Wende David, the groups membership and development manager.
The century-old barn, located just south of San Luis Obispo on South Higuera Street, has been physically restored since the Land Conservancy took it over in 1998.
Now, the group plans to convert it into a community gathering place to promote local agriculture, history, recreation and sustainability.
