Officers arrested a Northern California woman Friday morning after a short high-speed chase along Highway 101 that ended on the freeway’s northbound off-ramp at Los Berros Road, according to the CHP.
It began about 8:45 a.m. on the northbound freeway on-ramp at Main Street in Santa Maria after an officer spotted a 2007 Mercedes Benz ML 350 that was said to be driven by a woman reported missing from Huntington Beach in Orange County. The vehicle’s Global Positioning System service allowed officers to find the car, the CHP said.
Officers pulled over the woman, Jessica Albrooke, 26, of Forest Lake, twice — once north of the Donovan Road exit in Santa Maria and then north of the Santa Maria River bridge — but she drove away after officers tried to contact her.
The second time she fled, Albrooke allegedly reached speeds up to 120 mph driving through Nipomo, where a CHP officer set up a spike strip near Tefft Street. That deflated her right front tire, slowing the car to between 15 to 20 mph along the freeway’s shoulder.
When she stopped at Los Berros Road, Albrooke allegedly ran away, so an officer tackled and then restrained her. After she was placed into a patrol car, she allegedly broke out its rear side window, the CHP said.
Albrooke was taken to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria for a mental health and medical evaluation, according to the CHP. Charges of evading officers and resisting arrest are pending.
