Police on Friday identified the man found in Pismo Creek on Monday as Joseph Anthony Illg.
Illg, 43, was found by a hobbyist photographer at 3:20 p.m. about 80 to 100 yards east of the Highway 1 overpass at Pismo Creek by Ira Lease Park, according to Pismo Beach Cmdr. Jake Miller.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, which ruled out foul play in Illgs death. However, the cause of death is still unknown pending the results of the toxicology tests, which police said may take a few weeks.
Miller said Illg had been in the creek for more than two days, but less than two weeks.
He said police do not believe Illgs body entered the creek at the point at which it was found, as the area was completely undisturbed and he likely moved with the tide.
