In fact, Russ Lanes opening-day big fish of 8 pounds, 8 ounces was heavier than the bag weight of 54 of the entrants. Sixty-eight percent of the field of 93 anglers did not have a 5-fish limit. Nine blanked.
Lintner managed to catch only one fish. The 2-pound, 7-ounce bass put him in 78th place. His lone fish on day one of a 2007 event at Lake Toho in Florida weighed 15 ounces.
This is the second time that the Elite series has come to California. Lintner placed seventh at the Delta in 2007. Aaron Martens, a former Californian, who won here three years ago, caught four fish for only five pounds.
Day-one leader Stephen Browning logged a 21-11 limit.
Friday will be a scramble to make the top 47 and a paycheck.
