Theater ask locals to ‘Get behind the Plough’
The Pewter Plough Playhouse says it is reaching out to the community to “Get Behind the Plough” and support its drive to raise funds to install a fire-prevention sprinkler system.
The nonprofit organization has raised approximately $4,600 so far towards a goal of $32,000. The Playhouse closed Feb. 28 on orders of fire and building safety officials, and won’t be allowed to reopen until sprinklers are installed. A permit to do so expires July 31.
Nehemiah Persoff, well known actor, painter and Playhouse board member, gave an impassioned plea at a community meeting Feb. 27, citing cultural benefits to the community of the theater.
A fundraising kick-off music and food extravaganza dubbed “Save The Playhouse!” is planned for 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at the Veterans Memorial Building.
For more information, to make a tax-deductible contributions or offer to volunteer to help with the fund drive, call 927-3877 or visit www.pewterploughplayhouse.org.
