The Cal Poly baseball team got out to a fast start, scoring seven runs in the first inning of a 13-3 rout of Northern Illinois on Tuesday at Baggett Stadium.
The first nine Mustangs reached base safely, staking Mason Radeke to an early lead.

Radeke was used sparingly, giving up one run in just four innings while matching his career high with eight strikeouts.
Radeke (3-0), a sophomore, now has 23 strikeouts in 181⁄3 innings this season.
Jordan Hadlock was 4 for 5, driving in four runs for Cal Poly (4-6).
In five games, Hadlock is hitting .857 with a walk and a triple.
Ross Brayton, J.J. Thompson and Mitch Haniger added two hits each for Cal Poly, which pounded out 20 hits as a team.
The Huskies (3-7) had 13 hits including four singles by Troy Smith.
Cuesta 15, Ventura 1
Jon Moscot remained unbeaten, tossing seven innings of three-hit ball, allowing one run and striking out three.
Moscot (4-0) lowered his ERA to 1.73 in 26 innings.
Shortstop TJ Filicia had three hits and three RBI for Cuesta (8-5, 1-0 Western State Conference), while Zach Steele and Ty Muller had two hits apiece.
The Cougars had 13 players collect at least one hit.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal Poly 6, Michigan State 1
Cal Poly took seven of the nine contested sets against their Big Ten foe at the Mustang Courts.
Brittany Blalock, Suzie Matzenauer, Diane Filip, Alexa Lee and Jocelyn Davis all won singles matches for the Mustangs.
Michigan State had taken 10 of 11 doubles points coming into the dual, but despite an upset of Lee and Steffi Wong, Cal Poly (10-2) was able to claim the point by winning the other two matches.
MEN’S GOLF
Cal Poly shot a five-person total of 369 to tie for 10th place on the final day of the Fresno State Lexus Classic.
The Mustangs finished with a 51-over score of 1,116 at the San Joaquin Country Club.
BYU and San Diego shot 1,085, but the Cougars claimed the team title after one playoff hole.
Cal Poly had just one finisher in the top 40 as Pace Johnson’s final round 72 gave him a 3-over 216 and a 14th-place finish.
Jarod Knight and Daniel Miller finished in a 43rd place tie for the Mustangs after finishing at 224.
SOFTBALL
Cuesta 9, Allan Hancock 1, 5 innings; Cuesta 8, Allan Hancock 1
Cuesta pitcher Rachel Thompson threw two complete games and helped her own cause in the process, blasting a home run as the Cougars (7-11-1) swept Allan Hancock.
Thompson recorded 16 strikeouts on the day.
The Cougars will host a previously postponed doubleheader with Foothill on Saturday.
