Highway 1 is expected to remain closed north of the San Luis Obispo-Monterey county line at least through Sunday because of a rockslide, according to Caltrans.
The slide blocked the road north of Ragged Point. As a result, a 3-mile section of road is closed from about 29 miles north of Cambria to about 2 miles south of Gorda.
Hearst Castle and area businesses remain open.
The slide covered both sides of the road and oozed into the ocean-side right of way, according to a Caltrans employee.
Information on road conditions on Big Sur from Cambria to Carmel are available call calling a toll-free Caltrans line at (888) 836-0866.
Road information is also available online at www.snipr.com/sloroads.
