Biz Buzz: Muggelberg, Viborg named Roblans of Year
Former Camp Roberts leader, longtime volunteer with youth lauded for community service

closeA longtime volunteer with youth and a retired military leader were named the 2009 Roblans of the Year by the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce earlier this month.
Longtime Paso Robles residents Sandy Viborg and retired Brig. Gen. Glenn Muggelberg were honored at an award dinner on Jan. 16 at the Paso Robles Inn.
Viborg, described as an unsung hero, “prefers to work behind the scenes to accomplish goals while allowing others to shine in the spotlight,” according to Julie Matthews with the chamber’s communications office.
She’s lived in Paso Robles for 60 years and is involved with local chapters of youth organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts and Amigos de Los Niños, which works to improve the lives of children with physical and mental challenges.
She’s also an advocate for local politicians.
Muggelberg became part of the Paso Robles community in 1971 when he was appointed commanding officer at Camp Roberts, where officials said he was among those who helped influence efforts to keep the installation open.
He had served in the military since he was 17 years old, when he joined the Michigan National Guard. World War II was among his service missions.
He’s also been active in the service group Kiwanis Club for more than 20 years, serving several leadership roles.
In 1970, he helped build the Pioneer Museum and develop its inventory system for historical items. He also served on the California Senior Legislature in Sacramento, a volunteer-based effort that proposes ideas for legislation at the state and federal levels.

Rincon rated among top places to work
Rincon Consultants, Inc., a Ventura-based environmental sciences and planning consulting firm with an office in San Luis Obispo, was recently named one of the “Best Firms to Work For” in a nationwide competition.
Rincon received first place for mid-sized environmental firms of 50 to 249 employees, and ranked ninth place overall for environmental firms.
The competition was organized by ZweigWhite, a management consulting and research firm, and Stagnito Media, an engineering media company.
Awards were based on the results of a comprehensive online survey of workplace practices, as well as an independent survey of employees.

The Center For Educational Therapy has moved to 1264 Higuera St., Suite 209, in San Luis Obispo.
Formerly on James Way in Pismo Beach, the center is run by Dianne L. Olvera, who said she moved to be closer to her clients, about 80 percent of whom are from San Luis Obispo. She works with elementary, high school and college students with learning disabilities.
