Prep Basketball: Feld sets school record in Crusaders’ victory

North County Christian senior Josh Feld is used to breaking school records.

From the gridiron to the basketball court, he can now add another one to his list.

Feld, a senior, scored a career-high 43 points, breaking a 16-year old school record for points in a game in the Crusaders’ 77-56 home win over Coastal Christian on Friday.

North County Christian coach Brian Ricks said he was impressed by more than just Feld’s offensive output.

“He had a good performance all around and defensively,” Ricks said.

Feld added a game-high 14 rebounds.

North County Christian’s Joe Honeycutt added 11 assists.

“This was one of our best offensive games, and as a team we had good shots,” Ricks said. “Our defense isn’t quite there but you take what you can get.”

Zachary Schultz led Coastal Christian with 23 points.

Arroyo Grande 71, Nipomo 44

Michael Escobedo led Arroyo Grande (16-3, 5-0 PAC 7) with 26 points as the Eagles remained undefeated in league play. The Eagles held Nipomo to just six first-quarter points.

Ryan McNeil led the Titans (9-9, 2-2 PAC 7) with 18 points.

St. Joseph 76, Templeton 47

Dakota Oropeza led the Eagles with 19 points, and Jordan Hattar added 12.

After being held to seven first-quarter points, Templeton (7-8, 2-2 LPL) scored 18 in the second to climb back into the game before St. Joseph put it away in the second half.

Lompoc 57, Morro Bay 34

The Pirates (6-12, 1-4 LPL) were held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed 23-9 at halftime.

Edward Griley led Morro Bay with 14 points, and Case Bruton added nine.

“We had a rough start and struggled shooting the ball, but we played hard,” Morro Bay coach Dave Yamate said.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Arroyo Grande 56, Nipomo 32

Haley MacDonald had a team-high 11 points as the Eagles remained unbeaten in league play.

Arroyo Grande (12-5, 5-0 PAC 7), which got eight points from Jenna Sverchek, led 35-10 at halftime.

Tessa Underwood had a game-high 13 points for Nipomo (5-12, 0-4).

St. Joseph 67, Templeton 19

Katie Hunter had a team-high 10 points for Templeton (5-10, 1-3).

St. Joseph jumped out to a 27-3 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Carly O’Sullivan had nine rebounds, and Katie Koehler added eight for the Eagles.

Morro Bay 78, Lompoc 39

Megan Hansen had a game-high 20 points, and Ciara Ramos added 18 for the Pirates (11-5, 4-1 LPL).

“Megan and Ciara are doing an excellent job of being the on-court leaders,” Morro Bay coach Cary Nerelli said. “They’ve been responsible for much of our success as a team.”

Hannah Gilbert added 12 points for Morro Bay, which led 27-11 after one quarter and had its highest scoring output this season.

“We usually don’t score that much,” Nerelli said. “We’re just in a real good flow offensively at this point in the season.”

Atascadero 60, Coast Union 20

Raven Taylor led the Greyhounds (11-3) with 16 points in the nonleague game.

Katelyn Lorenz led the Broncos (4-11) with nine points.
