Biz Buzz: United Airlines adding to its SLO service

San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport is adding a fifth United Airlines flight to its schedule.

SkyWest Airlines, United’s regional partner, will operate the flight between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles International Airport, officials said. The plane, a 30-seat Embraer 120 turboprop, will arrive at 11:29 p.m., remain at the airport overnight and depart at 5:59 a.m. each day. The new schedule began Tuesday night.

“It’s great that United recognizes the potential of our local market, and we believe this is another encouraging step in recovering from the capacity cuts in 2008,” said Richard Howell, general manager of the airport.

The region lost about 37 percent of it departing airline seats when American Airlines and Delta Airlines left the market and US Airways cut back services to its hub in Las Vegas. The cuts were the result of a weak economy and high oil prices in 2008.

Yoga instructor to offer laughter class

Bob Banner, publisher of Edible SLO and Hope Dance Online, has become a certified laughter yoga instructor from the American School of Laughter and is offering sessions throughout San Luis Obispo County starting this month.   

Laughter Yoga was started by Indian physician Madan Kataria in 1995 with only five participants. There are now more than 8,000 laughter yoga clubs offering sessions worldwide.

“It’s simple, fun and good for you, and anyone can participate,” said Banner.  “Laughing, even when faking it, releases endorphins, which are feel-good hormones, bringing positive effects to the mind and body.”

Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes with 30 minutes of energetic laughing and playfulness exercises, and then concludes with a laughter meditation.

Hospitality firm to run Pismo resort

Myraline Morris Whitaker’s Central Coast of California Hospitality has been named to manage the SeaCrest Resort in Pismo Beach.

The SeaCrest Resort, a five-acre, 158-room beachfront hotel, was updated with a $6.5 million renovation in 2008. Whitaker will direct all property operations, including marketing, sales, finance and human resources.
