Best wishes to all at the tail end of the year

As 2009 comes to an end I wanted to thank all of my readers for the wonderful stories and photos shared in the column this year, and to many of you for opening your homes to the dogs and cats at the San Luis Obispo Animal Shelter.

I wanted to also thank Ellen Perryess and Charlotte Rushton for providing the information and the photos for the featured shelter pets, and the employees and volunteers at the shelters and humane societies throughout the county for working so hard to find new homes for the animals in their facilities.

I wish you all a safe and happy New Year!

Luke’s a looker

This is Luke. He’s 2 years old and was rescued from the San Luis Obispo Animal Shelter. As you can see, he loves sitting on The Tribune. He sits in our newspaper basket so he can look out the window almost every day.

A day for big-eared dogs

Every year in September we host our annual Papillion Party complete with themes. Of course the party is not for the dogs alone but for us proud owners who love to talk about our dogs and share a wonderful afternoon with others that appreciate this exceptional breed of dog.

Our theme this year was Fiesta Time, and the total participation equaled 31 people, 20 papillions, a cute terrier named Lucy and a lively little Chihuahua named Miss Freyja, who tried entering the party wearing fake papillion ears!

Our friends came from as far away as the San Fernando Valley, Castaic and Santa Barbara.

  • Stay on topic. Only post comments relevant to the article at hand. If you want to discuss an issue with a specific user, click on his profile name and leave him a public message.
  • Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.
  • Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.
  • Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
  • Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

You should also know that The Tribune does not screen comments before they are posted. You are more likely to see inappropriate comments before our staff does, so we ask that you click the "report abuse" button to submit those comments for moderator review. You also may notify us via email at webmaster@thetribunenews.com. Note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us the profile name of the user who made the comment. Remember, comment moderation is subjective. You may find some material objectionable that we won't and vice versa.

If you submit a comment, the username of your account will appear along with it. Users cannot remove their own comments once they have submitted them, but you may ask our staff to retract one of your comments by sending an email to webmaster@thetribunenews.com. Again, make sure you note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us your profile name.
