A slow start doomed Templeton Highs boys basketball team Saturday in a 61-52 loss to Montclair at Atascadero.
Montclair jumped out to a 21-6 lead after one quarter and led by as many as 18 points in the second quarter before the Eagles (3-5) mounted a comeback.
They came out very aggressive and we just didnt handle their press well, Templeton coach Fred Price said. They did a nice job getting to the hoop and converting.
We got it down to 55-50 with little over a minute left but we turned it over twice in a row and had to foul and they made their free throws.
Templetons Daniel Wheeler led all scorers with 18 points, and Dakota Oropeza added 10 for the Eagles.
Jonathon Honag led Montclair with 17 points, and David Castaneda added 14.

At the Marin Catholic Tournament, the Eagles (8-3) were held to their lowest point total of the season.
Arroyo Grande was held to 24 points in the first three quarters, including only four in the second period.
Offensively we were out of sync, Arroyo Grande coach Ryan Glanville said. We didnt play well offensively and its that simple. We didnt shoot well and couldnt get anything done offensively.
Kelly Shepard was the only Arroyo Grande player in double figures with 13 points. Garrett Weinreich added eight points for the Eagles.
The Eagles return to action at 2 p.m. Monday in the tournament, playing Natomas.
