County environmental health officials have posted public health advisories at three beaches after weekly testing showed high bacteria levels in the water.
Signs advising beachgoers to stay out of the water were posted north and south of the Avila Beach pier and south of the Pismo Beach pier, said Liberty Amundson, environmental health specialist.

Beach water advisories are more common following rainstorms which wash animal waste and other pollutants into the ocean. People are advised to stay out of the ocean during and 72 hours following storms, Amundson said.
New water samples were taken and the advisory signs will stay posted until samples show that bacteria levels have returned to safe levels.
