Two top state officials will be at Montaña de Oro State Park on Saturday at 11 a.m. to observe the final installation of photovoltaic panels at the park’s Spooner Ranch Visitor Center.
State Parks Director Ruth Coleman and Conservation Corps Director David Muraki will watch as members from the corps’ Los Padres Center in San Luis Obispo put the finishing touches on 31 panels and support structures in three separate locations in the park.
The solar system is expected to generate most of the park’s electrical needs.
The installation is part of a parks department initiative to lower its carbon footprint and reduce operating expenses. The corps will install panels at Morro Bay State Park in 2010.
