Two annual events — to be held this year on Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 1 and 3 — will kick off the North Coast’s post-Thanksgiving holiday season.
The live Festival of Trees auction Tuesday night offers the chance to bid on and buy 17 decorated trees and three wreaths to help support a variety of area charities. North Coast residents and businesses decorate and donate the auction offerings, and charitable bidders compete in what can be a spirited contest. Comedian Jill Turnbow of Cambria will be the auctioneer.
This year, participants can get a sneak peek at a tree designed to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The nonprofit group “advocates for every child’s birthright to a safe, nurturing, healthy, permanent family; and to help each child in developing his or her full potential.”
Until auction day, the tree is on display at The Hamlet at Moonstone Gardens restaurant, 7432 Exotic Garden Drive. The tree was donated by The Hamlet, Brooks Gallery, GROW Nursery and Moonstone Day Spa.

Hospitality Night
Hospitality Night festivities include: at least three opportunities for children to talk to and have photos taken with Santa Claus; cookie decorating; concerts and casual music fests; Christmas-tree lighting; drawings, gifts, discounts, refreshments and even a magician.
The downtown open house runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3, and includes events in East, West and mid-village.
Throughout the evening, the Cambria Otter Trolley will take people from one end of downtown to the other, helping reduce traffic congestion and parking shortages.
Some of the newer Hospitality Night offerings will be at: the Cambria Library, 900 Main St.; Cut and Run Hair Studio, 4210 Burton Drive, Suite 5; Ball & Skein & More, 4070 Burton Drive; and aboard the adopt-a-pet mobile from Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART), in front of 1920 Main St.
The Coast Union High School choir will perform at the Cambria Historical Museum at Burton Drive and Center Street. The Cambria Chorale performs at the Joslyn Center, 950 Main St. David Manion will be at the Baldwin at the Pewter Plough Playhouse, 824 Main St.
Flutists Martha Uhey and Maria Apostoles perform holiday music at the museum, and Pat and Susan are at Chambers Gallery, 755 Main St.
