Dan De Vaul, the San Luis Obispo rancher convicted of building safety and vehicle storage code violations at his program for the homeless, was released from County Jail tonight.
His lawyers today also filed an appeal of his conviction with the state Court of Appeal in Ventura.
De Vaul was taken into custody Monday after he refused to abide by terms of probation that Superior Court Judge John Trice offered him. He was led handcuffed from Trice’s courtroom.
Bail was set at $1,000, and his release was contingent on a $500 bond being paid. An Atascadero woman who served on the jury that convicted De Vaul of the misdemeanor counts put up the cash to pay the bail. She did not initially want to convict De Vaul, court documents showed.
