The Paso Robles City Library is seeking year-end donations to buy new titles for its shelves in 2010.

Ornaments representing the needed books are hung on a tree near the main circulation desk at the library at 1000 Spring St.
Donors can choose a book ornament from the tree and bring it to the circulation desk with a donation of $25 for an adult book or $20 for a children’s book.

Volunteer Cappy Culver, namesake of Cappy Culver Elementary School in Heritage Ranch, was honored by the Paso Robles City Library on Nov. 15.
Chosen as the library Volunteer of the Year, the former teacher has donated her time to reading to school children, sharing books, songs, poetry and creating simple craft activities, said Kris Bell, children’s services librarian.
Culver was a teacher at Lillian Larsen Elementary in San Miguel for 28 years and now visits the school weekly to read to children.
“It’s always a pleasure to be in the company of someone who truly enjoys what she does,” Bell said. “We are graced by Cappy’s dedication and service.”
This is the eighth year the library has presented its Volunteer of the Year Award.
The annual volunteer appreciation reception recognizes the library’s 100-plus volunteers and the 15,000 hours they contribute each year, officials said.

Paso Robles
Paso Robles Mayor Duane Picanco signed a proclamation Tuesday that named November as Toy Bank Month to encourage locals to help the less fortunate during the holidays.
The Toy Bank of Greater Paso Robles distributed toys to more than 1,800 children in December 2008, according to the group. To donate toys or sign up to receive them, call 226-2126.
Volunteers will distribute toys to those in the North County who sign up for them at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1301 Oak St., starting at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12.
