San Miguel man will go to trial for shooting death of his wife

The San Miguel man accused of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of his wife will stand trial, a judge ruled Friday.

John Aaron Norris, 25, is accused of accidentally shooting his wife, Tasha Dawn Norris, on July 9 at the couple�s townhouse in the 500 block of 11th Street.

Judge Michael Duffy ruled that enough evidence was presented by Deputy District Attorney Matt Kerrigan at a preliminary hearing to warrant a full trial.

Norris is scheduled to appear Dec. 8 for an arraignment on charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of an illegal weapon. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the initial phase of the case.

Norris� attorney, Ilan-Funke-Bilu, said that his client is a good man who loved his wife and that he didn�t think charges should have been brought by the District Attorney�s Office.

But Kerrigan said that the shooting accident was committed �with criminal negligence� and that�s why prosecutors filed charges. Kerrigan said Norris should have checked to see if the gun was loaded, and taken proper safety prosecutions to prevent the shooting.
