More differences

So many more differences.

When a liberal doesn’t want an abortion, she doesn’t get one. If a conservative doesn’t want one, then no one else should be allowed to get one.

If a liberal doesn’t want to marry a gay person, he doesn’t marry a gay person. If a conservative doesn’t want to marry a gay person, than no one else should be able to, no matter how strong their love is.

A liberal understands taxes are a part of American life and doesn’t gripe about their money going to health care, schools and other programs that help Americans. A conservative gripes and complains about it, unless the money is going to “Liberate Iraq.”

A religious liberal understands that America is a country with many different religions and doesn’t complain that their God isn’t talked about in schools. They understand their God many not be someone else’s God. A religious conservative doesn’t care if you believe in their God. Their God should be talked about in school and everywhere else.

When a liberal wants to talk about health care at a town hall meeting, they go loaded with facts, ready to discuss. A conservative goes as well — with a loaded gun.

Many falsehoods

So many falsehoods, so little space allowed to respond. In the Nov. 15 letter by Joan Carter, it says, “Liberals achieve civil rights for minorities. Conservatives fight tooth and nail against this and call Martin Luther King Jr. a Communist.”

Actually, conservatives call King a Republican, because that’s what he was (registered in 1956). See the National Black Republican Association Web site for information your history teacher and the main stream media never told you.

In 1960, Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act in spite of a 125-hour filibuster by 18 Senate Democrats. The 1964 Civil Rights Act was filibustered in part by Democratic Senator Robert Byrd who still serves on the Senate.

The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments giving rights to blacks passed with overwhelming Republican support and intense Democrat opposition.

Conservatives are also the champions of women’s rights. Republican majorities gave women the right to vote in 1919. On November 18, 1872, Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting, after boasting to Elizabeth Cady Stanton that she voted for “the Republican ticket — straight.”

Too often falsehoods are allowed to circulate in the media, this is but one example.

Left versus right

In response to a letter from John Canaday, Nov. 5.

If a conservative does not like abortions, he tries to pass laws preventing anyone from getting one. If a liberal does not like having an abortion, she does not have one.

A conservative will figure out how to pay fewer taxes by hiring an accountant to hide his income.

A liberal pays his taxes because taxes are the price of a civilized society.

If a conservative does not like gays, he tries to ban all marriages between gay people. If a liberal does not like gay people, he realizes that he is homophobic.

If a conservative sees a threat from terrorists, he asks the government to spend billions of tax dollars to send the military to protect us. If a liberal sees the same threat, he tries to figure out how to appropriately respond without bankrupting our country and making the problems worse.

If a conservative does not agree with the media, he shouts from the highest rooftop how biased it is. If a liberal disagrees with the media, he realizes there is a vast right-wing conspiracy.

If Jesus, Gandhi or Buddha were Americans, they would be liberals. That’s it. Mike Lucas

True conservatives

I take serious issue with the letter written by Christine Ahern (Letters, Nov. 12) and her description of conservatives.

True conservatives see a problem with gun violence but don’t see the answer in gun control. Vegetarianism should be a personal choice and people should never be discriminated against for choosing not to be one.

Conservatives do care when they see a foreign threat and they do choose to do something about the bully, not just “ask why.”

Conservatives choose to give a hand up instead of a handout.

Liberals in media and even in Congress called for the death of Bush, but now that it’s a liberal president, it’s suddenly not right? It’s never right. A person’s belief system shapes their character for better or worse. 

Conservatives want health care for all those who need it. That is why they passed the law that forbids any emergency room from denying care to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

Conservatives have huge hearts of compassion for their fellow man, they just view the solutions differently. Don’t say things about people if you don’t know the majority of them and their beliefs.
