The San Luis Obispo High girls tennis team advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division III semifinals with a narrow tiebreaker win over Valencia on Tuesday in Valencia.
The teams were tied in sets at nine, but the Tigers won the games tiebreaker 81-76.
This is probably one of the biggest wins in program history, Tigers coach Gary Etheredge said. I cant say enough about the girls resiliency.
The PAC 7 champion doubles team of Alex Coffman and Lili Voisinet swept their three matches 6-3, 6-1, 6-3, providing the Tigers with a crucial 11-game advantage.
But Etheredge said he was also very impressed with the play of his third doubles team, Maddie Hansen and Coreen Owens. The duo won two of three matches and added a four-game advantage in the scoring.
(Hansen and Owens) winning two out of three they provided us with a big lift today, Etheredge said.
Abigail Will and Tori Troesch won two matches each for the Tigers (19-1), who will play the winner of the Pacifica and South Pasadena match Thursday.
It was big to have Abigail and Tori playing well, Etheredge said. Theyve been carrying us a lot during the course of the year.
The location of Thursdays semifinal match would be determined by how many times each team has played on the road through the quarterfinals. The Tigers have played two of their three matches on the road. If their opponent has played one road match, the Tigers would play at home. If both teams have played twice on the road there will be a coin flip today to determine the home site.
