The mandala features intricate patterns and blends of brightly colored sand.

Students can watch as the monks work on different parts of the mandala in Cal Poly’s University Union.

Each monk holds a chak-pur in one hand while running a metal rod on its serrated surface; the vibration causes the grains to flow onto the painting.
