Prep Roundup: Tigers’ top tennis players move into PAC 7 semifinals

San Luis Obispo High’s Tori Troesch won both of her singles matchups at the PAC 7 girls tennis prelims Thursday, defeating Nipomo’s Bianca Grant 6-0, 6-0, and Arroyo Grande’s Hayley Veal 6-2, 6-1.

Troesch will play Pioneer Valley’s Caitlin Brown in the semifinals today.

Brown swept both of her singles matches — 6-3, 6-2 against Atascadero’s Kristin MacBride and 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 against Paso Robles’ Maria Petiy.

Arroyo Grande’s Mia McKinstry defeated Arroyo Grande’s Stephanie Domako 6-1, 6-3, and Righetti’s Katy Veroski 6-1, 6-0, putting her in the semifinals, as well, where she’ll face San Luis Obispo’s Abigail Will.

Will swept her singles matches 6-0, 6-0 — first over Righetti’s Jessica Caine and then over Paso Robles’ Chelsea Merrill.

San Luis Obispo will also be represented in doubles, as the Tigers’ Alex Coffman and Lili Voisinet advanced to the semifinals, where they’ll face Paso Robles’ Jessica Shubbie and Katharine Redberg.

Kimmy Turner and Brianna Flood swept their doubles matches for Arroyo Grande to also advance. They’ll square off with Paso Robles’ Lauren Wong and Lauren Nguyen.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Arroyo Grande 3, Nipomo 0

Chelsey McKelvy had eight kills, three blocks and three aces to help the Eagles claim their fourth straight undefeated PAC 7 championship with a 25-10, 25-5, 25-7 win.

“The team worked very hard all year for this,” Eagles coach Ernie Santa Cruz said. “Our strength this year is that we had a balanced team. We had four different girls we could go to as our hitters.”

Maggi Jo Keffury had a match-high 32 assists, and teammate Madi Ventura had a team-high 17 digs and four aces for Arroyo Grande (19-2, 12-0).

Mission Prep 3, Atascadero 1

Andrea Fernandez led Mission Prep (14-3) with 13 kills and three aces in its 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16 win.

Sadie Casacca added nine kills and five aces for the Royals, and Deirdre Laird finished with 28 assists and six aces.

Mission Prep had 22 aces as a team.

Brianna Norlock led Atascadero (12-7) with 10 kills. Heather Harbottle had 22 assists and five kills for the Greyhounds.

Paso Robles 3, San Luis Obispo 2

Tess Roundtree had a team-high 18 kills, two blocks and eight digs in a 25-19, 17-25, 26-24, 19-25, 16-14 win for the Bearcats.

Maritza Juarez added 14 kills and nine digs for the Bearcats (18-5, 10-2 PAC 7), who finished second in league.

San Luis Obispo (11-9, 7-5) got a match-high 20 kills from Beth Hoyt, and Elizabeth Culpepper had 11 kills and three blocks for the Tigers, who finished third in the PAC 7.

Templeton 3, Morro Bay 1

The Eagles won 25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19.

Kiersten Humphries led Templeton (14-10, 7-5 Los Padres League) with a match-high 22 kills in its final league contest.

Natalie Madson and Jeanine Madson had 10 and eight kills, respectively, for the Eagles and Hailey Johnson finished with 40 assists.

Monica Santiago had 23 digs for the Pirates, and Ciara Ramos added eight kills. Kylie Gacad chipped in 19 assists and five blocks for Morro Bay.

Shandon 3, Maricopa 2

The Outlaws claimed their first Coast Valley League volleyball title school history with a 14-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-13, 15-7 win in Maricopa.

Jeannette Barrera had 12 kills and four aces for Shandon (12-2, 9-1 CVL), which will enter the playoffs on a six-match winning streak.

Dontavia Henderson added 12 kills and seven blocks, and teammate Estefania Ramirez had a match-high 11 aces and 20 digs for the Outlaws.

North County Christian 3, Valley Christian 1

The Crusaders won 21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 as Jessica Lindquist had six aces and nine blocks.

Brianna Feld added four aces and 13 blocks for North County Christian (7-15, 4-6 CVL). Cheyenne Ricks had nine assists, and Jessica Yoshida had nine kills.

Coastal Christian 3, Cuyama 0

Coastal Christian made quick work of the Bears, 25-6, 25-17, 25-17.

Joanne Lindstaedt had 16 assists and two aces for Coastal Christian, Leslie Henry had five aces and Grace Napier had five kills and seven aces.

BOYS WATER POLO

Righetti 18, San Luis Obispo 8

Dragan Dincic led the Tigers with three goals, and Kelton McMains added two more.

San Luis Obispo (15-11, 5-5 PAC 7) also got a goal apiece from Jackson Allison, Jeff Gomez and Kyle McAlahney.

Matt Johnson had six goals for the Warriors (16-9, 9-1 PAC 7).

Paso Robles 4, Atascadero 3

Playing in his final match for the Paso Robles, Ata Bulgurlu scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 1:15 remaining to give the Bearcats a road win over Atascadero.

“This was a typical ’Hounds and ’Cats kind of duel,” Paso Robles coach Duane McRoy said.

Atascadero goalie Patrick Neil kept his team alive with 21 saves, while his counterpart, Dylan Grois, made 16 saves for Paso Robles (12-14, 3-7 PAC 7).

“Dylan kept us in the game,” McRoy said. “He allowed us to make some mistakes defensively and covered up for them.”
