  Members of the Paso Robles Police Officers Association are calling on the city to ensure a safe working environment for their employees in light of recent allegations against police Chief Lisa Solomon, according to a statement Monday.

  Online news site Cal Coast News reported last week that some officers in the Paso Robles Police Department accused her of sexual harassment and other allegations.

  Seven people were arrested around 7 a.m. this morning on various drug-related charges after Paso Robles police served a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Beverly Drive in Paso Robles.

  Two narcotic detection K-9 teams from Atascadero State Hospital Police Department assisted in the operation.

  Police seized about half a pound of marijuana, as well as heroin and methamphetamine drug paraphernalia, according to a news release issued by Paso Robles police.

  An Elder Fraud Prevention Fair will be held Thursday in San Luis Obispo, hosted by the Central Coast Fraud Association.

  There will be presentations by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the San Luis Obispo County Office of the District Attorney, as well as information about identity theft, mail scams and financial, consumer, telemarketing and sweepstakes fraud.

  The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the San Luis Obispo Veterans Memorial Building, 801 Grand Ave.

  28 arrested in latest 'Safe Streets' crackdown in North County

  A multi-agency gang sweep in Paso Robles took place over the weekend as part of an effort to curb violent crime in the North County.

  The crackdown on Friday and Saturday resulted in 28 arrests and 19 traffic citations, according to a news release from Paso Robles police. The goal was “contacting, identifying, and arresting gang members” but maintained a zero-tolerance approach to any criminal activity.

  The arrests included narcotics, parole, arrest warrant, and probation violations as well as drunken driving, reckless driving, driving without a license, and right-of-way citations.

  Be alert for scams

  I received a telephone call from a young wo-man who was very distraught and claimed to be my granddaughter. She stated that she drove to Mexico, got intoxicated, was involved in an automobile accident and as a result was incarcerated in a Mexican jail. To get out of jail, she stated that she needed $2,225 wired to an attorney in Spain who just so happened to be in Mexico and very able to resolve her incarceration and automobile repairs.

  I recognized immediately that this was a scam. I told her to call me back in twenty minutes so I could arrange to wire her the money. I hung up and called the Sheriff’s Department and proposed a wiretap. The officer told me nothing could be done because of California law, and that the caller was most likely outside the United States.
