A man was found dead attached to a fishing buoy Tuesday off Morro Bay.
A person on board a fishing boat named Miss Allison reported finding 47-year-old David Allen Kubiak of Los Osos. Kubiak's fishing vessel Axel, a 39-foot boat home, is ported in Morro Bay, Sheriff's officials said.
Sheriff's spokesman Rob Bryn said it appears Kubiak fell from the vessel sometime overnight. His body was discovered tied to a fishing buoy at 10:40 this morning.
The Axel reportedly only had one person aboard when it was spotted, officials said.
Kubiak was picked up by Coast Guard officials in Morro Bay. Investigators from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Dept. were aboard the boat to assist with an investigation.
Kubiaks death has been ruled an accident at sea, Bryn said.
A Coast Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft from Sacramento and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from San Francisco were sent to the area, along with an 87-foot patrol boat from Yerba Buena Island.
