  A high surf advisory has been issued for the San Luis Obispo County coastline by the National Weather Service.

  The agency said surf will range from 10 to 14 feet at west and northwesterly facing shorelines. Waves will start to lower gradually overnight. The advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Christmas Day.

  "Large surf and very strong rip currents will make ocean activities dangerous for anyone," the Weather Service said.

  The National Weather Service has issued wind, high-surf and small-craft advisories, with a gale watch, affecting the Central Coast as of Sunday night and into Monday morning.

  The wind advisory is in effect through noon Monday, and mostly applies to the North County, including Paso Robles and Atascadero areas.

  The agency warns that south-to-southwest winds are expected to increase to 20 to 30 mph, with gusts to 40 to 45 mph late Sunday night and continue through Monday morning.

  We strongly urge county Supervisor Paul Teixeira to reconsider his decision to deny $1,200 in community project funds to the South County Community Advisory Council.

  We appreciate Teixeira’s concern about the county’s budget woes, but this is not the place to skimp. Volunteer advisory councils are an important link between local communities and county government, and denying them funds for office supplies is absurd.

  Among other functions, community advisory councils give proposed developments an initial review. Over the past few months, for example, the South County Community Advisory Council has considered applications for the Excelaron oil exploration project; a horse boarding facility; traffic lights at Pomeroy and Willow; and an expansion of the Community Health Centers clinic in Nipomo.
